WE ARE JUST THREE REGULAR GIRLS WHO HAVE NOW MADE HISTORY
The Nigerian
Women’s Bobsled team who made history by qualifying for the Winter
Olympics have arrived in Nigeria, completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Wondering what
Bobsled sport is right? Well we are so used to football, field and track events
that we barely know that some other interesting sports exists. Well here’s what
Bobsled sport is about:
Bobsled is
a winter sport in
which teams of two or four teammates make timed runs down narrow, twisting,
banked, iced tracks in a gravity-powered sled.
The timed runs are combined to calculate the final score.
No African
country has represented the sport of bobsled at the Winter Olympics, but that’s
about to change thanks to three women aiming to represent Nigeria. Seun Adigun,
Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga are shaping history to become Nigeria’s first
women’s bobsled team.
Seun, Ngozi and
Akuoma are established athletes and are engaged in other activities other than
sports.
- Ngozi has background work experience in the mortgage industry and is
now a full-time student pursuing a Doctoral degree.
- Akuoma is the brakeman for
the Nigerian Women’s Bobsled Team and also works as a healthcare recruiter.
- Seun is the driver of the team and also currently a chiropractic student. Seun
is studying for a dual degree of a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Texas
Chiropractic College and a Masters of Science in Exercise & Health Science
University of Houston Clear Lake.
Teamwork and
support have been integral in giving the women of Nigeria’s bobsled team
confidence as they work towards success.
The 2018 Winter Olympics
will take place in PyeongChang, South Korea from 9 February to 25
February.
The history-making ladies
defied the odds to qualify for the Winter Olympics mostly through personal efforts
and corporate support but have now been recognised by the government.
What would you rather do differently? Think outside the box dear. Ooops! there's no box though, its all in your mind!
