These days everyone has a cell phone. I am sure that it is accurate to say that no matter how long the battery life of your phone is, it will eventually “die”. On the average, most people charge their phone once daily and for some maybe every other day. If you live in a place where there is constant power supply, you probably have a specific time when you plug your phone to some power source. For those in areas of incessant power outage . . . well that is gist for another day.
Anyway, you may have noticed that the periods when you use a lot of the functions on your phone - downloading stuff, playing games, responding to emails, listening to music, FB, etc. - the battery discharges quickly; requiring a recharge more frequently.
Every now and then (more so for some than others) we all have periods that are hectic- so much busier than usual. At these times, we often get overwhelmed with tasks and activities.
With a lot to do, the human tendency is for one to spend less time in prayer, worship and God's word; BUT we really do need to keep in perspective that just like it is with anything that needs re-charging, it only makes sense that the more it is used, the more frequently it needs to be charged if it is to continue functioning optimally...and why is that not as obvious to us in our daily living? Then we wonder why we get so weary and less effective at the very things we give up our "times of devotion" to do because we don’t have time! The more we need to do, the more we need to re-charge in His presence, or else we simply burn out and crash. In practical terms we begin to experience anxiety, stress, depression, weariness. But in God’s presence as we pray, worship and study His word, our joy, peace and faith are restored. We receive wisdom and grace that enable us to work much more and efficiently too given the constraints of time.
Knowing that one spiritual recharge can only last so long, we each need to determine that spending time with God should never be traded for more time at anything else.
NOTE THIS: When life gets busy, and throws challenges at us, we use up so much more virtue.
If we don’t connect with God more frequently to refill and recharge, we only wear ourselves out and set ourselves up for a great crash. The busier life gets, the more we need to touch base with God. Follow this wise counsel - “Too busy NOT to pray!” says a book aptly titled so.
"He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
[Isaiah 40: 29-31; NKJV]
RECOMMENDATION: Commit to spending time with God each day - in His word, in worship and prayer. Oops! don't forget, praise God like never before!!!
